Playa de Vallehermoso

Playa de Vallehermoso is a shingle beach on the northern coast of La Gomera, stretching about 300 meters and composed of black stones and pebbles. Tall rock cliffs rise directly behind the shoreline, creating a dramatic backdrop to the water.

Remnants of old fishing platforms remain visible, showing the maritime trade activities of past centuries. These structures demonstrate that the coastline has been economically important to local communities for hundreds of years.

Fishing remains an active part of daily life here, with local crews using methods suited to the rocky shoreline. The work reflects how people have adapted their lives to this coastal landscape over time.

Strong waves and currents make ocean swimming difficult and potentially unsafe, but two seasonal pools near the beach offer safer alternatives. Visiting works best when weather is calm and the pools are open to the public.

From this beach you can see La Palma island directly across the water on the horizon. Palm trees and old agricultural terraces descend all the way to the shore, creating an unusual mix of maritime and farming landscapes.
