Bãi tắm công cộng Hòn Gai is a public beach on the eastern side of Hạ Long city, Vietnam, situated along Trần Quốc Nghiễm street. The sandy shore stretches close to 900 meters in length and between 70 and 90 meters in width, with limestone rocks rising from the water nearby.
The Hòn Gai waterfront was long an ordinary part of the city's edge, without public access to the shore. As part of an urban development project along Trần Quốc Nghiễm street, the area was reshaped around 2019 to 2020 and opened as a public beach on April 30.
Locals from Hạ Long use the beach mainly on weekends and public holidays, when families gather along the shore. The wavy sidewalk pattern along the seafront promenade has become a popular spot for evening walks and photos.
The beach is free to enter and open for swimming without any fee. Parking areas, sun chairs, and shaded spots are available on site, and there are rest areas nearby where visitors can bring their own food and drinks.
The sand was not found naturally on this shore but was brought in for the project, with over 280,000 cubic meters used to create the beach. The overall design of the waterfront area was created by an Italian designer, which is unusual for a city beach in northern Vietnam.
