Yarra Bay Beach

Yarra Bay Beach is a sandy beach on the northern side of Botany Bay featuring light-colored sand and sheltered waters. The shoreline extends for several hundred meters and provides a calm swimming area with unobstructed views across the bay.

This location marks the arrival of Governor Phillip in January 1788 when the first European settlers came ashore. Local Aboriginal people showed the newcomers a freshwater source that would later become known as Bunnerong Creek.

Yarra Bay House on Yarra Point now serves as the local Aboriginal Land Council headquarters, reflecting the area's connection to indigenous communities.

The beach provides bathroom facilities, barbecue areas, and picnic spots for visitors to use. It is important to know there are no lifeguards on duty, so swimmers enter the water at their own risk.

A sailing club sits at one end of the beach with boats and recreational activities, while commercial port facilities occupy the opposite end. This mix of leisure recreation and maritime commerce makes it an interesting place where different uses meet.
