Plage de Gravelines

Plage de Gravelines is a sand beach stretching about 3 kilometers along the North Sea coast with fine sand and calm waters for swimming and water sports. The shoreline includes changing rooms, showers, and facilities that make it easy for visitors to spend the day in comfort.

The beach lies near medieval fortifications and a fortress that have protected this strategic coastal location since the 16th century. These structures reflect the area's former military importance and remain visible features of the landscape today.

The beach remains a working harbor at its northern end, where fishing boats and nets tell the story of the local maritime tradition. Visitors walking along the shore can observe this activity, especially in the early morning when boats prepare for their day.

Supervised swimming areas and water sports equipment rentals operate mainly from June through September, so plan your visit during warmer months if you want these services. The beach is open year-round, though facilities are reduced outside the summer period.

A black and white striped lighthouse with 104 steps rises from the beach and offers views across the river estuary and coastline. Climbing it rewards visitors with a distinctive perspective on the surrounding landscape and waters.
