Monkey's Island
Monkey's Island is a beach club on the Escher See in Cologne with a sandy beach, lounge chairs, and water for swimming. The facility includes an open area for all visitors and a separate section for those seeking a quieter experience.
The Escher See was created in the 1950s from mining excavations in the area. The site was previously known as Sundown Beach before taking on its current name of Monkey's Island.
The name Monkey's Island reflects the local identity of this gathering spot by the lake. Today it serves as a meeting place where residents and visitors come together to spend time outdoors, swim, and enjoy leisure activities along the water.
The site is easy to reach and has parking nearby. Opening hours depend on weather conditions, and you can rent equipment like stand-up paddleboards while food and drinks are available at the beach bar.
The site was renovated after storms and a fire and has now reopened to visitors. The operators cleaned, repainted, and added plants to make the area more inviting for guests.
