Simultanhalle

Simultanhalle is a cubic structure in Cologne with a distinctive sawtooth roof and specialized lighting systems designed for art displays. The interior has been closed since 2018 due to structural damage, while exhibitions and performances now take place in the outdoor areas surrounding it.

Built in 1979 by architects Busmann and Haberer, the structure served as an experimental model for the Museum Ludwig's construction in central Cologne. This project influenced the city's architectural development and later transformed into an art exhibition venue.

The hall became a center for contemporary art hosting regional and international creators since the early 1980s. The place shapes artistic life in this area through regular exhibitions and performances held in and around the space.

The site is easily accessible on foot and offers year-round access to outdoor areas for visitors. Those interested in current events should check in advance, as the interior spaces remain closed to the public.

Students from Düsseldorf's University of Applied Science developed conservation strategies in 2022 to protect this endangered architectural structure. Their work demonstrates how contemporary thinking can help preserve an architectural legacy.
