Kokkini Ammos Beach, beach in Archangelos, Greece
Kokkini Ammos Beach is a small, secluded cove on the east coast of Rhodes, near the village of Archangelos. It consists of a narrow strip of reddish sand and smooth pebbles, backed by steep, uneven cliffs and opening onto shallow, clear water.
For a long time the cove was a quiet stop used by local fishermen who worked the waters along this stretch of coast. It never developed into a resort area, and the lack of modern building has left its natural shape largely unchanged over the years.
The local name means 'Red Sand', and although the beach is mostly small pebbles, patches of reddish sand and stones still catch the eye, especially when wet. The area remains free of sunbeds, music, and shops, so visitors experience the shoreline much as local people have for generations.
The easiest way to arrive is by boat or kayak, as the land route ends with a steep, rocky descent that requires sturdy shoes and a good level of fitness. If you come by land, bring water, sun protection, and everything you need for the day, since there are no facilities or services at the cove itself.
A rope fixed on the left side of the cliff helps visitors steady themselves during the final descent, turning the approach into a small adventure. Once at the water, swimmers often notice that the shallow bottom holds more marine life than expected for such a modest cove.
