Starganiec, Sand beach in Mikołów, Poland
Starganiec is a reservoir with two distinct water bodies featuring sandy shores suitable for swimming and water activities. The site includes wooden jetties, changing facilities, sunbathing areas, and sits within the Panewnickie Forest with marked walking paths throughout the surrounding woodland.
The reservoir originated in the mid-1800s from former sand mining operations and later served workers from the nearby Baildon Steelworks as a recreation site. Over time it developed into a public bathing destination attracting visitors from surrounding areas.
The renovation project in 2023 transformed Starganiec into a modern recreational facility with swimming areas, volleyball courts, and designated picnic spots.
The site is accessible via two parking areas along Owsiana Street with good public transportation connections. Bus service provides convenient access from nearby towns and surrounding communities.
The smaller pond contains treated water with a specialized rubber bottom mat, while the larger basin retains its natural conditions. This contrast creates two distinct swimming experiences at a single location.
