Monte Branco

Monte Branco is a sand beach on the Ria de Aveiro estuary, featuring a wide shoreline bordered by natural dunes and pine forests. The water here stays shallow for quite a distance from the shore, making it easy to wade in.

The beach developed alongside the growth of fishing communities in the Torreira region over several centuries. The lagoon and coastal waters have supported local livelihoods through generations.

Local fishermen continue their traditional practices near Monte Branco beach, maintaining connections to Portugal's maritime heritage through their daily activities.

The beach has parking areas, restaurants, and shower facilities near the main access points. The best time for swimming is from May through September when water temperatures are more comfortable.

The water here stays cool year-round, never becoming truly warm even during summer months. This is due to the influence of Atlantic currents and the shallow lagoon system.
