Ondarreta, Sand beach in San Sebastian, Spain
Playa de Ondarreta is a sand beach along the western section of La Concha Bay with golden sand and gentle waves for swimming. The shoreline stretches for several hundred meters and provides ample space for visitors to relax by the water.
The beach developed near Miramar Palace, built in 1893 as a summer residence for the Spanish Royal Family during their visits to San Sebastian. This royal connection shaped the development of the surrounding area.
The western end features Eduardo Chillida's El Peine del Viento sculptures, which represent the connection between land and sea. These artworks shape the character of the place and invite visitors to spend time exploring them.
The beach provides showers, changing rooms, sun lounger rentals, lifeguard services, and designated areas for water sports. Visitors should be prepared for weather conditions depending on the season and follow lifeguard instructions.
At low tide, visitors can walk along a natural rocky path called Pico de Loro that connects the beach to Miramar Palace. This route appears and disappears with the tides, offering a special experience at certain times of day.
