Herring Cove Beach

Herring Cove Beach is a sandy shore in Provincetown stretching along Cape Cod Bay with fine sand and gentle waves. The bay side location creates calm waters that are ideal for swimming compared to the rougher Atlantic-facing beaches in the area.

The beach was integrated into the Cape Cod National Seashore system in the 1960s to preserve the coastal landscape. This federal protection ensured the shore would remain accessible and maintained as a public space.

Musicians perform concerts at Herring Cove Beach during July and August, creating a gathering space for residents and visitors to experience local entertainment.

The beach has two parking areas with over 600 spaces available for visitors. Facilities and access points are well-maintained throughout the season, making it straightforward to spend time here.

This is the only National Park Service beach located on Cape Cod Bay rather than facing the open Atlantic. This distinction makes it stand out among other managed beaches in the region.
