Silver Sands

Silver Sands is a sand beach on the Connecticut coast with fine white sand and gentle slopes descending to Long Island Sound waters. The shore extends for 1.5 miles and features a paved boardwalk that guides visitors along the waterfront.

The beach was designated a state park in 1960 following major infrastructure development to handle increasing visitor numbers. This transformation reflected the growing demand for public coastal recreation in the mid-20th century.

Summer concerts and community gatherings take place here, bringing visitors together for shared outdoor experiences along the coast. These events shape how locals and tourists experience the beach during warm months.

The beach offers parking, restrooms, and showers, with flat terrain making it accessible for visitors of all abilities. Visiting during quieter times allows you to fully enjoy the walkways and facilities without crowding.

At low tide, a sandbar connects to Charles Island, where legend claims Captain Kidd buried treasure in the 17th century. This island becomes walkable during certain tidal conditions, offering an offbeat exploration opportunity beyond the main beach.
