Étang de Loudon

Étang de Loudon is an artificial pond situated within a forested landscape that includes peat zones, wet and dry moorland, and natural grasslands. Multiple trails cross through this terrain, connecting different ecological zones across the Sarthe department.

A former priory once stood in this location, leaving traces of religious settlement in the area. An ancient Roman road also passed through this region, connecting it to wider trade and communication networks.

The pond serves as a habitat for regional plant and animal life that visitors can observe while walking. The trails that wind through the landscape offer chances to experience the changing environment from season to season.

A marked trail loop of about 8 kilometers starts from the Loudonneaux parking area and suits both walkers and mountain bikers. The path is clearly marked, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace while adjusting to varying ground conditions.

Iron-rich streams surrounding the pond create distinct color patterns along the pathways that shift with the seasons and water levels. These natural hues turn an ordinary walk into something visually engaging that changes with each visit.
