Pont Yssoir

Pont Yssoir is a bridge spanning the Sarthe River to connect the Pre and Plantagenet neighborhoods of Le Mans. The structure features separate pathways for cyclists and pedestrians to ensure safe passage for different types of users.

The original bridge was built in 1530 as a wooden drawbridge. Around three decades later it was reconstructed in stone to improve durability and usability.

The bridge connects two distinct neighborhoods and serves as a daily crossing for residents moving between different parts of the city. Its role as a link between communities makes it a natural gathering spot where people from both areas encounter each other.

The bridge is designed for both pedestrians and cyclists with clear separation between the paths. Pay attention to the walking surfaces, especially in wet weather, as they can become slippery.

Roman archaeological remains found at the bridge's base indicate the presence of an ancient crossing from the Gallo-Roman period. This suggests the location has served as a crossing point for nearly two thousand years.
