Koi Fish Town, Public aquarium in Shimabara, Japan

Koi Fish Town is a public aquarium along a canal in the Shin-Machi district of Shimabara, Japan. The canal is fed by natural springs, and the water is clear enough to see all the way to the bottom where colorful carp move slowly through.

The area is easy to walk through, with stone paths running directly alongside the water channels. Nearby parking is available if you arrive by car.

Part of the Seiryutei visitor center has a glass floor, so you can look down directly into the pond below your feet. It is also one of the few spots where you can try kanzarashi, a local sweet made from rice flour balls cooked in spring water.
