Via Ferrata du Boffi is a climbing route near Millau in the Aveyron region that runs along a tall cliff face using metal bars, ropes, and footbridges. Rebuilt in 2015 for safety and enjoyment, it offers views of the Dourbie Gorge, the Larzac plateau, and the distant Millau Viaduct spanning the valley below.
The route was rebuilt in 2015 to improve safety and make the experience more enjoyable. Since then, it has offered sections with metal nets, suspended footbridges, and zip lines designed to challenge climbers at different skill levels.
The name "Boffi" comes from the rock formation that hosts this route. People come here to engage with the outdoors in a direct way, sharing the space with soaring raptors and experiencing what it feels like to move through a vertical landscape.
Bring sturdy shoes, a small backpack, water, and gloves, plus sun protection or a rain jacket depending on weather. Allow about three hours for the entire experience, which includes a 20-minute walk from the parking area to the start of the route.
The route closes from March through June to protect nesting raptors, showing how the area serves as crucial habitat for wild birds. Visitors regularly see vultures soaring extremely close overhead during their visit, which amplifies the sensation of height.
