Scenic Railriders, Railbike experience in Concord, New Hampshire, US
Scenic Railriders is a railbike operation in Concord, New Hampshire, where visitors ride custom four-wheeled pedal bikes built to run on railroad tracks. The route follows an old rail line through woods and farmland along the Merrimack River toward Boscawen.
The tracks used for the rides are part of the Northern Railroad, built in 1846. When the rail company Pan Am began removing old tracks, the founder of Scenic Railriders secured a lease just in time to keep this section in use.
The starting point is on Sewalls Falls Road in Concord, and reservations should be made in advance as spots fill up. Bikes seat two or four people, and larger groups can link multiple bikes together for the ride.
The bikes were built by hand in the founder Gary Leblanc's garage, by someone who had also built his own house from scratch. One of the turning points along the route passes the Hannah Duston Memorial, a local historical landmark visible right from the rails.
