Le Marais des Bouligons, Protected wetland in Beaurières, France
Le Marais des Bouligons is a protected wetland covering about 65 hectares, featuring a central reed bed and wet meadows. The site is maintained through eco-grazing by sheep and horses that naturally manage the vegetation.
The wetland formed after the collapse of Pic de Luc in 1442, which created a natural dam and a large lake. Over time, this lake gradually transformed into the marsh we see today.
This wetland serves as a place where visitors experience traditional land management practices that shape the ecosystem. People come here to connect with nature and learn about local conservation efforts.
