Fare Hape - Centre d'accueil et d'hébergement, Campground and cultural center in Papenoo Valley, French Polynesia
Fare Hape is a guest house and cultural center in Papenoo Valley that offers 15 traditional wooden huts with basic furnishings. Each accommodation sleeps up to four people and the site sits within a valley containing many archaeological remains.
The center opened in 2004 to introduce visitors to the archaeological treasures of Papenoo Valley. The valley itself contains the remains of numerous ancient settlements and sacred sites that shaped Tahitian culture.
The name Fare Hape means 'House of Hope' in Tahitian and reflects its role as a gathering place for the community. Visitors can observe how local people use the valley's natural and archaeological spaces as part of their daily connection to the land and ancestors.
The site is best reached by four-wheel drive vehicle, as the access roads are unpaved and can become difficult in rainy weather. Plan ahead and allow time to adjust to the basic conditions when you arrive.
The facility features a shared kitchen called Fare Potee where guests cook and eat together. Mobile phone reception is scarce in the valley, but the center has access to the local Vini network, allowing some communication options.
