Strandcamping Waging am See
Strandcamping Waging am See is a lakeside campground in southeastern Bavaria near the Austrian border, spanning over 36 hectares. The grounds feature tent and caravan areas, wooden cabins, vacation apartments, a restaurant with lake views, grocery shop, mini golf course, and a water sports school offering kayak and paddle boat rentals.
The campground was founded in 1952 by Wilhelm Scharnow from Bremen, who recognized the area's natural beauty and established a welcoming camping site with local government support. Over decades it evolved from a basic tent camp into a modern facility offering diverse lodging options and recreational amenities.
The site reflects Bavarian traditions through its architecture and local events that visitors can experience firsthand. Seasonal festivals, markets, and music nights showcase regional customs and local food like sausage and beer.
The grounds are easily navigable with comprehensive facilities including two-level bathrooms with separate children's showers, outdoor sinks, and a large communal kitchen area. Set up tents or park caravans in clearly marked zones, explore the many paths by bicycle or scooter, and take advantage of the dog park with shower facilities.
In its early days, arriving guests were transported from the train station to the camp by local residents using horse-drawn carts, creating a memorable first impression. This welcoming tradition reflects the site's community roots and its role as a gathering place for the region.
