Kratzmühle
Kratzmühle is a campground on the Altmuehl River in the Altmuehltal Nature Park with over 400 pitches for tents, caravans, and motorhomes. The site has sunny and shaded spaces, some directly by the water, along with modern sanitary facilities that include sections for families, children, and visitors with disabilities.
The site is named after an old water mill that once shaped the area and now remains part of the memory of the river's industrial past. The region developed around such waterpower sites before later becoming a popular recreation area.
The site takes its name from an old mill that once operated by the river, connecting the place to the region's past. Visitors today use it as a space for quiet time in nature, showing how this riverbank has long served as a retreat from daily life.
The site is open year-round and accepts reservations as well as late arrivals after 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. without advance notice. Visitors will find pitches with water and electricity, laundry facilities, a small restaurant, a shop selling fresh bread, and free WiFi throughout the grounds.
The nearby lake Kratzmuehlsee is mainly used for calm activities such as swimming, boating, and rowing, offering visitors a different water experience than the flowing river. The pub Wirtshaus zur Kratzmühle is known for bringing meals directly to campsites, which guests appreciate.
