El Planàs, Campsite in Vistabella del Maestrat, Spain.
El Planàs is a campground situated at the edge of Penyagolosa Natural Park in a forested setting with around 250 camping spaces nestled beneath tall pine trees. The layout spreads through woodland terrain, with pitched areas shaded naturally by dense forest canopy.
The campground was established to provide access to ancient pilgrimage routes that connected Vistabella del Maestrat to the shrine of Sant Joan de Penyagolosa. Its location was chosen to serve travelers following these long-standing mountain paths.
The site provides open-air cooking areas where visitors gather to prepare meals together, creating spaces for social connection among people who share a love of outdoor living. These communal zones reflect how camping here serves as a place for community rather than isolation.
Visitors need to request a camping spot at least seven days ahead through the Territorial Services of Castellón Conselleria. Stays are limited to ten days, so plan your visit duration accordingly.
The site sits at the intersection of two major long-distance hiking routes, the GR-7 and GR-33, linking visitors to a sprawling network of mountain trails. From this single base camp, hikers can venture toward multiple distant destinations without needing to relocate.
