Jardin japonais d'Ichikawa

The Jardin japonais d'Ichikawa is a Japanese garden in Issy-les-Moulineaux that blends elements of traditional Japanese garden design. The space features a dry gravel garden with decorative stonework, a flowing waterfall that empties into a larger pond, and authentic Japanese architectural structures throughout.

The garden was developed between 2013 and 2016 as the result of a sister city partnership between Issy-les-Moulineaux and the Japanese city of Ichikawa that began in 2008. This project marked the culmination of institutional exchange that brought the two communities closer together.

The garden serves as a symbol of friendship between the two cities and is used by visitors as a place for quiet reflection and connection. The traditional lanterns and stone arrangements embody the cultural exchange that shaped this space.

The garden is located along the Promenade du Verger and offers free entry to visitors daily. The open pathways and wide walking routes make the space easily accessible for guests of all abilities.

The garden uses a traditional Japanese design system where smooth stones represent islands and gravel areas symbolize the sea. This subtle composition creates a miniature landscape that visitors often overlook despite being central to its conceptual design.
