Carlsberg Brewery Tours

J.C. Jacobsen founded the brewery in 1847 and introduced scientific methods to beer production when such practices were still uncommon. In 1875 he established a research laboratory that became influential in setting new brewing standards.

The site displays Nordic sculptures in a garden setting and keeps traditional draft horses in working stables nearby. These elements reflect Denmark's brewing heritage and the brewery's deep ties to local traditions over many generations.

The site is easily reached on foot from central Copenhagen and has clear signage to guide visitors through the grounds. Tours are offered regularly, allowing you to explore the various areas either at your own pace or with a guide.

The laboratory here developed a method for cultivating pure yeast strains that is still used in beer production worldwide. This discovery became so influential that it formed the basis for standardized brewing methods across the entire industry.
