Zoku Amsterdam, Contemporary hotel in Eastern Canal District, Netherlands
Zoku Amsterdam is a hotel in the Eastern Canal District featuring 133 private lofts that combine living and working spaces, with retractable stairs accessing elevated sleeping areas. Each compact unit includes a full kitchen setup designed for extended stays and remote work.
The hotel opened in 2016 as part of a residential concept created in the Knowledge Mile district through collaboration with Dutch design firm Concrete. This project represented a new approach to hospitality designed for digital nomads and remote workers.
The Living Kitchen restaurant sources daily ingredients from the rooftop greenhouse to create meals that bring travelers and local residents together. This approach encourages sharing and conversation among guests from different backgrounds.
A 24-hour shop on the top floor sells travel items, snacks, and SIM cards for guest convenience. Laundry facilities are located in the basement for those staying multiple nights.
Each loft transforms from a daytime workspace into an evening home within 24 hours through modular furniture that allows this flexibility. This remarkable space efficiency fits an entire apartment into just 24 square meters (258 square feet).
