El Azud is a natural pool formed by an old dam on the Matarraña River, with water held between rocky cliffs. The riverbed widens here, creating a deep basin ideal for swimming in open air.
The pool came into being when an ancient irrigation dam was constructed on the river. Over time, locals adapted this water management structure into a natural bathing spot.
The pool represents Aragonese traditions of converting old river weirs into ecological recreational areas, reflecting regional values of environmental conservation while providing community gathering spaces for summer activities.
Entry into the water is via stairs built along the rock face for safe access. Parking, a bar, and grassy rest areas are available on-site for visitors.
Rocks jut out up to 5 meters above the water surface at various points, allowing swimmers to jump in. The river water contains fish that you may encounter while swimming.
