12th Knot, Rooftop bar with terrace in South Bank, London, United Kingdom.
The 12th Knot is a rooftop bar on the twelfth floor of the Sea Containers building, combining open spaces with comfortable seating and large windows overlooking the Thames. The venue holds roughly 250 people inside and 60 on the terrace, with both areas designed for socializing and taking in the views.
The Sea Containers building dates from the early 20th century and originally served the port infrastructure along the Thames. The structure retains some of its industrial design elements, which remain visible in parts of the venue today.
This rooftop venue plays a role in South Bank's social scene, drawing people who come together for music and conversation against the river backdrop. Regular guests experience a mix of laid-back weekday visits and more vibrant weekend gatherings shaped by the live performances.
The venue operates on select days of the week with varying closing times depending on the day. Reservations are recommended for larger groups, and wheelchair access is available throughout the space.
The outdoor terrace closes at 10pm due to local licensing restrictions, even though the indoor space stays open later. This is one of the few rooftop bars in London that holds a wedding license.

In London, just look up to discover another city. Above the pavements and the bustle, rooftops have become places to breathe, have a drink, or simply watch the sun set over the Thames. From the City to Shoreditch, from the West End to Camden, each terrace offers something different: some are elegant and intimate, others bohemian, loud, or festive. Glass towers reflect in cocktail glasses, red roofs glow under string lights, and the skyline shifts color throughout the day. These rooftop bars are more than viewpoints—they are parts of London, between sky and music, where the urban energy that never sleeps is felt. People go up for the view, stay for the life that builds there every evening.
