Arboretum d'Harcourt
The Arboretum d'Harcourt is a large collection of tree species spread across an estate near the village of Harcourt. Gentle paths wind through the grounds, where visitors encounter conifers, broad-leafed trees, and plants from various climates, each labeled for identification.
The arboretum was created in the 19th century as a place for scientists and plant enthusiasts to study trees and learn about different species. The nearby castle, built centuries earlier, remains a visible landmark on the estate and shapes the historical character of the site.
The name reflects the noble family who established the estate centuries ago and shaped this land. Today, visitors walk the paths and stop to observe the trees, experiencing how the space connects them with nature and local heritage.
The grounds are open from April through October and can be explored at your own pace on foot. Parking is available, the paths are well-maintained, and benches are located throughout the site for rest and observation.
Evening visitors can experience Arbora Lumina, a spectacular illumination of the entire grounds with colored lights that transforms the familiar paths into a dreamlike landscape. This nighttime walk offers a completely different perspective on the trees and surroundings.
