Little Atlantique Brewery, Microbrewery and pub in Nantes, France

The Little Atlantique Brewery is a microbrewery and brewpub in the Bas-Chantenay neighborhood of Nantes, housed in a 19th-century former oil mill near the Loire. The brewing equipment is visible from the main room, set behind the bar so that guests can watch the production while they drink.

The building that now houses the brewery was an oil mill in the 19th century, part of the industrial fabric of the Chantenay area. Jérôme and Gregory, two local beer lovers, later took it over and worked with architect Christophe Theilmann to convert it while keeping the original structure intact.

The Little Atlantique Brewery sits in the Bas-Chantenay neighborhood, a former industrial area along the Loire that still carries the feel of its working past. Inside, the original brick walls and structural elements of the old oil mill have been kept, giving the space a raw, honest character.

The brewery is reachable by a free river shuttle from the Ile de Nantes, or by tram and bus. Those who prefer to walk can follow the riverbank along the Loire, which makes for a pleasant approach to the neighborhood.

The Belem, one of the last surviving three-masted sailing ships in France, was launched in 1896 near this neighborhood. The name of the brewpub nods to this maritime past, a connection that many visitors only discover once they are inside and look around.
