Aux victimes des Révolutions, Memorial in the 20th arrondissement, Paris, France

Aux victimes des Révolutions is a memorial in Square Samuel-de-Champlain in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, near the Père-Lachaise cemetery. It takes the form of a stone bas-relief showing figures meant to represent the victims of all sides in revolutionary conflicts.

The bas-relief was created by Parisian sculptor Paul Moreau-Vauthier and bought by the city of Paris in 1907, then unveiled in 1909. It was designed to honor the victims of all revolutions without taking sides.

An inscription on the sculpture quotes Victor Hugo, calling for justice rather than revenge. This text gives the work a political and humanistic message that visitors can still read today.

The memorial sits inside a small green square and is not visible from the street, so it is easy to walk past without noticing it. It is worth combining a visit with a stop at the nearby Père-Lachaise cemetery, as both are close to each other.

Although the memorial stands near the Mur des Fédérés, it is a completely separate work not dedicated to any single revolution. The sculptor Paul Moreau-Vauthier's signature can be seen at the bottom right of the relief.
