This endorheic lagoon covers 1924 hectares with dimensions of 7.5 kilometers in length and 2.5 kilometers in width, situated at an altitude of approximately one thousand meters above sea level.
The lagoon was officially protected on November 30, 2006, through Law 11/2006 of the Government of Aragon, establishing it as a natural reserve under international protection frameworks.
Over 220 bird species have been recorded in this area, with common cranes forming one of the largest winter populations in Europe during their seasonal migration patterns.
