Les Pans de Travassac

The site features active slate extraction demonstrations where visitors can observe traditional mining techniques including rebillage, cleavage, and stone sizing processes performed by skilled craftsmen.

This slate quarry has operated continuously since the seventeenth century, preserving centuries-old extraction methods that have shaped the regional economy and local industrial heritage.

The museum displays historical documents, traditional tools, and educational films that illustrate the daily lives and working conditions of slate workers throughout different historical periods.

The site opens on Sundays and holidays from May to October with guided tours from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM, and daily tours during July and August.

This location represents the only active slate quarry museum of its kind in Europe, combining working demonstrations with comprehensive historical exhibitions.
