ORP Odważny, wisla-class torpedo boat
The ORP Odważny is a torpedo boat housed at a museum in Skarżysko-Kamienna, built in the early 1970s and retired from Polish naval service in 1986. Designed by local engineer Dionizy Wiśniewski, it measures about 25 meters long and was equipped with four torpedo tubes, a 30 mm cannon, and powerful engines that allowed it to reach speeds of up to 50 knots.
Construction began in April 1972 and the vessel entered service in September 1973, serving as part of Poland's rapid-response naval forces during the Cold War. It operated for more than a decade in patrol and defensive roles before being decommissioned in 1986 and preserved as a historical monument.
The ship stands as a point of pride for the town, representing the role of local talent in Poland's naval history. Its presence connects residents to a period when engineering skill and innovation were valued as signs of community achievement.
The vessel is displayed outdoors where visitors can walk around it and observe the deck and structural details up close from a designated platform. Plan your visit during daylight hours and fair weather to fully appreciate the ship's design and the surrounding museum area.
The boat was designed by local engineer Dionizy Wiśniewski, who was from Skarżysko-Kamienna itself, making this small town a center of Polish naval engineering talent. This local connection transforms the ship into a testament to community ingenuity rather than just a military object.
