Peter Iredale, sailing ship

Peter Iredale is a shipwreck in Warrenton that ran aground in 1906 and has remained a striking landmark ever since. The steel ship's skeletal frame protrudes from the sand and shallow water, creating a dramatic sight that draws visitors to this coastal location.

The ship was built as a four-masted steel sailing vessel in 1890 and wrecked here in 1906 during a storm. It was never salvaged and remains visible today as a reminder of the area's maritime history.

Access to the wreck is free and available year-round, with easier viewing during low tide when more of the structure is exposed. The area experiences strong winds and cold weather, so proper footwear and protective clothing are essential.

The wreck has become famous through photography and is now one of the most photographed spots on the Oregon coast. Many visitors come specifically at sunrise or sunset to capture the dramatic lighting on the weathered steel framework.
