Menhir de Manémeur, Menhir in Quiberon, France

The Menhir de Manémeur is a Neolithic standing stone located in Quiberon, in the Brittany region of France. It stands roughly 11 feet (3.5 m) tall and nearly 6.5 feet (2 m) wide, with a rough, weathered surface covered in patches of moss and lichen.

The Menhir de Manémeur was raised during the Neolithic period, a time when people across Brittany regularly erected large stones as markers or for ceremonies. It was classified as a historic monument in 1889, making it one of the earliest megaliths in the region to receive official recognition.

In Brittany, standing stones are woven into local storytelling, and this one is no different: legends of giants and spirits have long been attached to it. The stone sits on a quiet street lined with old walls, making it feel like a natural part of the neighborhood rather than a museum exhibit.

The menhir stands on Rue du Manémeur in Quiberon and is freely accessible at any time, with no entry fee or set opening hours. There is little signage on site, so it is worth noting the location on a map before heading out.

The surface of the stone is marked with several cupules, small round hollows carved by hand whose meaning remains unknown. Nearby excavations have also uncovered the remains of a cairn with two chambers made of large stones, suggesting this menhir was once part of a larger arrangement.
