Vallon des Martyrs
Vallon des Martyrs is a memorial with a stele in Signes honoring fallen resistance fighters. Two communal graves lie in front of small plaques engraved with the names of those who died.
The site was created shortly after the Liberation in 1944 to honor resistance fighters from Provence. The state officially acquired it in 1996 and made it a national memorial.
The name honors resistance fighters who fell here during the Second World War. Visitors often lay flowers or pause in silence to remember those who sacrificed their lives.
Access is on foot via a short path from the roadside. Every year on July 18, a commemoration ceremony takes place with wreath-laying and speeches.
A metal pole between the graves holds the French flag during ceremonies. Below a small altar rests a box containing bones of resistance fighters recovered from the area.
