Casa de Salinas, Historic house museum in Seville, Spain
Casa de Salinas is a 16th-century palace house in the historic center of Seville, near the Cathedral and the Alcázar. It is arranged around a central courtyard with a double gallery of marble columns, and its rooms display original features from the Renaissance period.
Built in the 16th century for a wealthy merchant, the house later served as a school, a printing workshop, and a Masonic lodge. In the 20th century, the Salinas family bought it and restored it to its original appearance.
The house is still a family home, and this lived-in quality shows in the personal touches and the care taken in its upkeep. Visitors can see how a Seville family has kept the place running while sharing it with the public.
The house is open daily except during private events, with longer hours from October to mid-June and shorter hours in summer. An audio guide in several languages is available, and visitors can explore the rooms at their own pace.
At one point, rumors of a hidden treasure led people to dig up parts of the house in search of it. The search ended when they accidentally broke into a septic tank.
