Edith Falls

Edith Falls is a waterfall in Nitmiluk National Park that flows into a large swimming pool with clear water and is surrounded by rocky cliffs and green forest. The river creates a series of pools and cascades flowing across the landscape.

The falls formed millions of years ago through geological processes that carved water channels into the landscape. It became a gathering place for Indigenous peoples and has been a significant cultural site for thousands of years.

Edith Falls, also known as Leliyn, has been a significant place for the Jawoyn people for thousands of years, where they gathered for ceremonies and meetings. The falls and surrounding landscape are deeply connected to stories and traditions passed down through many generations.

The walk to the falls is short and accessible, about 1 kilometer through bushland from a large car park, suitable for most visitors. Start early in the morning, bring plenty of water, and wear sun protection, as the climate is hot year-round.

The waterhole remains full year-round due to a constant water flow, making it one of the few reliable swimming spots even during the dry season. In the wet season, water levels rise dangerously and some areas close, showing the dramatic difference between seasons.
