Les Brochaux, Waterfall in Montriond, France
Les Brochaux is a waterfall in the municipality of Montriond, in the Haute-Savoie department of France. The water flows down a rocky slope and forms a wide curtain before reaching a natural pool at the bottom.
The area around Montriond was inhabited for centuries by farmers and mountain people for whom the waterfall was a resource in daily life. Over time, the site became a destination for walkers coming up from the valley.
The name "Les Brochaux" comes from the local dialect and refers to the rocky nature of the terrain. The area is part of the walking routes that connect Les Lindarets, a village known for its goats roaming freely through the streets, to the surrounding hills.
The trail to the waterfall starts to the right of the restaurant Le Chaudron in Les Lindarets village and takes roughly half an hour on foot. The path is clear and goes through woodland, though it can be harder to follow in winter when snow covers the ground.
In July and August, cars are not allowed into Les Lindarets, so reaching the waterfall means walking, cycling, or taking the cable car and small train. This gives the summer visit a very different feel compared to other seasons.
