İnciraltı Sea Museum Directorate
The İnciraltı Sea Museum Directorate is a naval museum in İzmir, Turkey, situated in a quiet harbor area in the Balçova neighborhood. The site displays two decommissioned naval vessels, a submarine and a frigate, that once served in the Turkish Navy and now stand as exhibits for visitors.
The museum opened in July 2007 and displays two vessels that originally came from the US Navy and later served in the Turkish Navy. The submarine TCG Pirireis was formerly the USS Tang, while the frigate TCG Ege was once known as the USS Ainsworth.
The museum is near the Özdilek shopping center and can be easily reached on foot or by public transport from the city center. The vessels are moored at the waterfront, and you can walk freely around many areas and take photographs.
Visitors can step inside the submarine and explore narrow passageways and small rooms where sailors once lived and worked. This experience gives a sense of how tight and limited the space aboard a military submarine really is.
