Eguisheim Authentic Christmas Market
The Eguisheim Christmas Market is a small, intimate event with about thirty stalls run by local craftspeople and makers from the area. The stalls line the narrow, cobblestone streets and offer handmade items, regional treats, and traditional Christmas ornaments.
Eguisheim has a long history reflected in its concentric streets that circle toward the town center, a design dating back centuries. The Christmas Market was established to preserve Alsatian traditions and has earned the "Christmas Towns and Villages" label, recognizing its authentic approach to cultural heritage.
The market showcases Alsatian customs through handmade crafts and regional specialties sold directly by local artisans who work in the town. The narrow streets with their glowing decorations and traditional houses create a setting where visitors experience the region's craftsmanship and hospitality in a genuine way.
The market operates daily from late November through December, open for daytime and evening visits when the decorations glow. Visitors can arrive by shuttle bus from Colmar or park in lots outside town and walk in; weekday visits offer quieter streets and a more relaxed experience than weekends.
During the Advent season, visitors can join special experiences like the night watchman's walk, where a watchman with an accordion shares stories about the town's past. There is also a Christmas treasure hunt where families solve clues throughout the narrow streets and discover hidden stories of the place.
