Aquarium Berlin
Aquarium Berlin is a public aquarium facility in central Berlin featuring fish, sharks, rays, reptiles, and insects displayed in large tanks and terrariums across multiple floors. The building contains ground-level tropical halls with coral reefs and shark pools, mid-level reptile areas with crocodiles and snakes, and upper floors dedicated to amphibians and insects including an extensive ant colony display.
The aquarium was established in the early 2000s and has grown into a major wildlife observation destination in Berlin. The notable crocodile hall, which is nearly 100 years old, was once the first walk-through animal enclosure and remains a core part of the collection today.
The Aquarium Berlin is named after its location in central Berlin and serves as a window into aquatic life for the city's residents and visitors. The place functions as a gathering point where people of all ages come to observe water environments up close and develop a connection with marine and freshwater creatures.
The facility is easily accessible by public transport and located on Budapester Strasse, with paid parking and an underground garage nearby. A typical visit takes around two hours, though visitors can stay longer if desired, and the building is fully wheelchair accessible with elevators and wide corridors throughout.
A standout feature is the exceptionally large shark tank holding about 260,000 liters of water, where visitors can walk around and observe sharks at close range. Additionally, special night tours run from October through March, allowing young explorers to discover animals after hours using torches.
