Franco Roero
Franco Roero is a winery in Zucchetto focused on traditional production methods. The estate spans vineyards on gentle slopes, features stone buildings, and contains cool cellars where wine ages in large barrels and tanks.
The estate has been family-operated for more than a century, spanning four generations of winemaking tradition. Bottling of wines began in 1995 after previous decades of selling wine in bulk or through merchants.
The Roero family name reflects generations of winemaking tied to this land and community. The vineyard rows shape daily life in the village, especially during harvest when neighbors work together and gather in local squares.
Plan visits in the morning or early afternoon to see the grounds with good light and activity around the vineyards. It is best to check ahead regarding hours, as the winery hosts tastings and small events on select occasions.
The estate focuses on Barbera grapes with multiple styles created through different barrel types ranging from new French oak to large traditional casks. A standout is Mappale 213, made from very old vines, which develops its character while aging in large vessels without losing its natural aromas.
