Lagos de Saliencia

Lagos de Saliencia is a group of lakes in a mountainous area of the natural park of Somiedo in Asturias, surrounded by high peaks and green meadows. The lakes were shaped by glacial activity and sit in shallow basins, with each lake having its own character - some with clear water, others tinted by past mining activity.

The lakes were formed by glacial activity centuries ago in this mountain region. Mining shaped the area and left visible marks, particularly in the mineral-tinted waters of some lakes and in old mining tracks that remain visible in the landscape today.

Some lakes like La Cueva show color tints from past mining activity, giving them an unusual appearance that tells the story of human influence on the landscape. These tinted waters make the lakes a striking example of how nature and history intertwine.
