Museu Arte Nova
Museu Arte Nova is a museum housed in a residential building completed in 1909 and designed by architects Silva Rocha and Ernesto Korrodi. The structure displays Art Nouveau characteristics including curved lines, nature-inspired ornaments, decorative tilework, and wrought iron details throughout its facades and interior.
The building was originally designed in 1907 and completed in 1909 as a private residence for the Pessoa family. In 1997 it received protection as a property of national cultural importance, and after falling into disrepair, the city acquired it in 2004 to restore and convert it into a museum by 2008.
The museum occupies a private residence where the Pessoa family once lived and displayed their appreciation for craftsmanship and design. Visitors can observe how Art Nouveau style shaped daily living spaces through decorative choices in every corner of the home.
The museum operates Tuesday through Sunday from late morning to early evening and sits near Jardim do Rossio. The building includes ramps and lifts making most areas accessible to wheelchair users, with reserved parking for visitors with mobility needs and clear signage throughout to guide guests.
The museum is part of the European Art Nouveau Route, connecting it to similar buildings across the continent. This network helps visitors understand how the style spread internationally and influenced architectural design in cities far beyond Aveiro.
