Katherine Hot Springs
Katherine Hot Springs is a park with natural thermal pools along the Katherine River in Katherine South. The water rises from underground and maintains a steady temperature between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius (77 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit), with several pools surrounded by native plants and trees.
The springs have been used by local people for generations and are a natural feature of Katherine's landscape. What was once a small pool in the riverbank has developed over time into a larger bathing area with multiple pools and walkways.
The hot springs have long served as a gathering place for the community. People use the warm water to soothe tired muscles and find peace, making this spot an important part of daily life in Katherine.
The springs are easy to reach from Katherine's town center, about 2 kilometers along Victoria Highway, with free access for all visitors. The park offers parking, toilets, barbecue areas, and picnic spots, along with accessible facilities like ramps and handrails for people with mobility needs.
The water is constantly moving gently, which helps keep it naturally clean and gives the pools a soothing, flowing feel. Visitors often spot local birds and other animals coming to drink from the nearby river, making the springs a living natural spot.
