Shepperton Studios
Shepperton Studios is a film studio in the English town of Shepperton with 26 sound stages of various sizes and modern production facilities. The site includes outdoor backlots, water tanks for underwater filming, post-production areas, and more than 150 independent companies providing technical services and special effects.
The studio was established in 1931 and began film production shortly after. During World War II it was commandeered by the British government for aircraft manufacturing and creating dummy planes, halting filmmaking operations during this period.
The name reflects the Surrey town where it has operated since the 1930s, becoming a hub for British film production. Today it serves as a gathering place for filmmakers and creatives from around the world who collaborate on projects that shape the industry.
A free shuttle bus connects the studio to train stations and nearby towns with proof of identity required. Visitors can also drive via Shepperton Road where ample parking is available, or take the train to nearby Staines, Ashford, or Shepperton stations.
A 17th-century mansion called Littleton House stands on the grounds and serves as a backdrop with marble entrance and large garden, featured in films like Batman Begins and The Omen. Adjacent Littleton Gardens with riverside and woodland areas provide natural filming locations and were used for scenes in classics like The African Queen.
