Spelthorne

Spelthorne is an administrative district in Surrey that stretches along the Thames and contains several major water reservoirs. These reservoirs, including Queen Mary and Staines, supply water to London and the surrounding regions.

The area formed in 1974 through the merger of Staines Urban District and Sunbury-on-Thames Urban District. It had shifted from Middlesex to Surrey in 1965, establishing its current administrative structure.

Shepperton Studios operates as a working film and television production facility where crews film scenes regularly. Kempton Park Racecourse draws crowds for horse racing events and serves as a major entertainment venue throughout the year.

The district has good train connections through several railway stations serving routes to London Waterloo, Reading, and Windsor. Journey times to these destinations are typically around 30 minutes.

The area protects about 65 percent of its land as Green Belt, despite being very close to London. These green spaces define the landscape and create a marked contrast to urban proximity.
