Flying Fish, Steel family roller coaster in Thorpe Park, England.
Flying Fish is a steel roller coaster at Thorpe Park in England, built around a figure-eight layout with a single helix turn. The track is painted blue and runs on dark blue supports, with trains that carry passengers in rows along the compact course.
The ride opened in 1983 under the name Space Station Zero as an indoor coaster inspired by Space Mountain. It was moved outdoors and renamed Flying Fish in 1990.
Flying Fish is one of the few rides at the park aimed at younger children, which makes it a natural gathering point for families with small kids. For many children, it is the first time they ride a coaster, and that moment tends to stay with them long after the visit.
Children must meet a minimum height to ride alone, and smaller children need an adult with them on the ride. The coaster is gentle, so no prior experience is needed and families with young children can join without any special preparation.
The coaster was fully taken apart in 2005 and put back together at a different spot in the park two years later. Moving an entire coaster to a new location within the same park is something that rarely happens, making this a small piece of the park's history worth knowing.
