Rush, Pendulum ride at Thorpe Park, England
Rush is a pendulum ride at Thorpe Park where two opposing arms swing riders back and forth in opposite directions. The structure uses compressed air to power these large swinging motions that lift and lower passengers repeatedly during the experience.
Rush opened in 2005 as an expanded version of the S&S Screamin' Swing design at Thorpe Park. It represented a shift toward larger pendulum rides that could accommodate more passengers per cycle.
The pendulum motion of Rush follows the tradition of fairground swing rides while introducing industrial-grade pneumatic systems for increased intensity.
Visitors ride in groups of around 32 people, with each arm having its own loading platform for smoother boarding and exiting. The two sides load and unload at slightly staggered times to keep operations running steadily.
The ride employs an advanced pneumatic cylinder system that creates precise swing patterns through controlled air pressure release and intake cycles.
